Spate of PayPal subscription cancellations

I have a site with subscribers on PayPal's automatic annual renewal subscription. Today I got about 20 odd subscription cancellations all at once.

I asked one of them why they cancelled and they said PayPal had done it for them without them requesting the cancellation.

Many of the cancelled people subscribed about 9 months ago, I'm not sure if that is relevant.

I asked PayPal, but no response as yet. Anyone else know anything about this?

I've had another 20 odd cancellations today. I asked another two and they didn't cancel either. PayPals first response has been a denail. Could this be another Great PayPal Cockup? Watch this space....

OK I seem to be talking to myself here, but at least I've sorted it out.
PayPal have told me they've just put in place a new process whereby anyone whose credit card has expired has there subscription cancelled. This is a really bad policy for people like me with yearly subscribers as many of them will have to go through the process of subscribing again because of this. Grrr.
