I have a few sites and this next one im questioning about. The products im selling are not allowed to be advertised for more than 25% off. I talked to the company and worked a way around it so that i could provide 40% off which they said would be ok. I also saw another company doing it. When a customer goes to check out the price of one of the items, it just says click here for the low price and it has a little text box that says that he/she has to enter there email and a price is automatically emailed to them. I tried it and it worked. Also, in the email is a link that takes you back to the site and lets you look at all the prices (lower price statement is removed and the actual price is shown)and then they dont have to email for each price. Also, it looks like the site is done in ASP. Is there some shopping cart software that will do this or must i program it myself.

Thanks for any help,
jef

Amazon handles this by forcing you to put the item in your shopping cart to display the real price.

Depending on your country (and even industry and state, in the US), Luckyme, there may be specific laws that limit the extent to which a supplier can control your advertised price.

The e-mail setup you are describing sounds like a custom job. I like the shopping cart approach (probably also a custom patch), as not only have you shown the real price immediately, you have induced the customer to put the item in his cart. It's just one more click on "Check Out Now" if the customer likes the price.

I'll add that if you are a small player, the supplier may cut you less slack than a biggie like Amazon or Wal-Mart.
