By the way great site of information. Has really helped me and my partner get started.

My question is has anyone got a success (or horror for that matter) with trying to start a e-store with Paypal and Mal's shopping cart. Both are free to use(with Paypal's normal cut per order) and I'm interested in using these to get our business started. Once we get a base and get some capital I'd like to expand to a merchant account but we're trying to earn our capital rather than drop it from the get go.

I'm still searching through threads for different things now but havent found anyone yet that has said "I used these things and they worked great and they got me started" type things.

Appreciate any feedback either positive or negative.

I used these things and they worked great and they got me started....

i did a site ages ago that used paypal shopping cart, it was pretty easy to setup etc but at the time payment in dollars was the only option for paypal(fortunately this particular site was targetted that way anyway) -ALso not everyone wants to pay by paypal if they dont already have an account, I dont really have anything to do with that site now so dont know if this is costing them $$$

I've used Mal's on a site before. For free it was the best/easiest I found.

I am addicted to Mals :)

Its FREE :)

I run two e-comm sites which are finally beginning to be quite busy :)

I use PHP/MySql and send the data to Mals, and then process the payment using Barclays EPDQ.

I am lucky enough to work for a large bricks and mortar company that has all the merchant accounts already set up, I dont think I could cope with paypal, I really dont like it.

Mal's is great for the price. However there is much more work involved than with other systems such as 1shoppingcart.

What I found lately was that our customers were using pages of our site that were in Google's cache to make orders. The result was that they made orders for delisted products, or paid the wrong price.

I joined paypal 3 months ago but my membership process still has not been completer. You will loss a lot of potential customers if you only use PayPal.

We are using Worldpay and are very satisfied with it. Our site is subjected to a lot of credit card fraud. Their guarrantee scheme offers us total peace of mind. We have made quite a number of claims against chargebacks and they have not given us any problems.
