Is PayPal using UCE/SPAM techniques....

Not sure if this is the correct forum because I've never done PP, so here goes:

This morning I received a message (supposedly) from them:

This e-mail is the notification of recent innovations taken by PayPal to detect inactive customers and non-functioning mailboxes.

The inactive customers are subject to restriction and removal in the next 3 months.

Please confirm your email address and and Credit Card info number by logging in to your PayPal account using the form below:

Well, I've had the addy this message came to for nearly four years and have never used PP.

You draw your own conclusions, but it did ask that you 'confirm' your particulars.

I think we had a thread about the paypal scammers recently...same thing as sending a bogus Yahoo mail, claiming to be 'from yahoo' and asking for the same info...

There have been hotmail ones like that, too. :)

Only time I get email from paypal is when they tell me I paid somebody, or got some money - which is a nice notification to get.

I did a couple of WebmasterWorld searches and since I didn't find anything, I went ahead an posted.

Good thing I trusted my 'inner voice(s)' this morning and fired off a SpamCop report.

Thanks.

Only ever enter PayPal (or NoChex, WorldPay, Barclays, NetBanx...) by entering the address yourself, or using a bookmark you have set.

Never, ever, follow a link in any email. If the email is important and relevant, they will prompt you when you log in or the information will be avilable in your account somewhere.

...and it bears repeating:

"Never, ever, follow a link in any email."

PayPal sent me an email this morning warning of the scam you describe pendanticist.

Good call with SpamCop.
