How to improve clicks/sale--what's good/bad?

Right now it takes 80 visits to our site to get a sale. I think this seems high. I've thought about how to improve this and I'm stuck. Once you hit the main page, you are one step from the catalog--which is easily visible and clear on how to access (it takes up 3/4 of the page). After that you choose what you want and then you buy it.

Has anyone made any changes or found any useful correlations when trying to improve their conversation rates?

Thanks,

Angie

I have been wrestling with this same issue for a while. I think a lot of it will have to do with your industry. The things I have done to increase sales a lot have been a major face lift and raise prices so that I can always offer free shipping..

The posts linked to above give a lot of really good information on other things.
