Link Text and Excluded Conditions

Whats the best way?

Lets say you have an offer that goes something like this

Buy red widgets and you get 10% off your order

you have the words "red widgets" link to the red widgets, easy...

Now the same offer says

No discounts apply to blue widgets

Do you have "blue widgets" link to the blue widgets? I can make valid arguments both ways.

I can't really think of any arguments against it. Having blue widgets there as a link to the blue widgets page is a convenience for people who want blue widgets, not a bad idea since we want to have "calls to action" wherever we can.

It's also giving an additional occurrence of the word "widgets" in anchor text on the page, so in addition to giving a boost to the blue widgets page for that phrase, you'd be adding relevance for widgets to the page the links are on.

Unless using the phrase "blue widgets" would minimize or dilute the page's relevance for "red widgets" I can't see any reason not to.

Oh, so then you're questioning whether to even mention blue widgets on the red widgets page altogether? That's a different story.

I still don't see a problem, if people know you have both red and blue widgets on your site in the first place. Either they want one or the other, and connecting up the two with a link, as long as they're closely related, can help with establishing theming for the site.

We definitly need to mention the blue widgets since customers are definitely going to ask/try for the discount, and we need to answer the question as to wheter they can get it.

I guess you're right i should link to it, if you REALLY WANT the blue widgets I should make it easier for you to get them.
