Other than Ad-Words, Overture, LookSmart, and basic search engine ranking are there any quality forms web promotion?

Press releases can do absolute wonders and drive 10000s of visitors to your site.

However make sure the release is newsworthy, I remember us having a link on a BBCnews page once which brought about 17.000 visitors in a day.

cost was £10 for the press release through sourcewire, and £200 to have the stuff written by a journalist.

Don't you need something unique to do a press release?

You need something unique, new or just newsworthy.

email - however, if unsolicited I highly recommend not making this a product/service promo - but exposure and get them to opt-in.

Word of mouth (need to provide a good service for this - similar to a press release - it has to be worthy!).

Networking (meet other liked minded people - share ideas, etc).

Business partnerships (a simple link exchange can in time develop into a profitable business partnership for both parties).

Here. There. Everywhere. :)

Not really a set method or process - just a case of chatting with people and making contacts.

Is there a good place to find opt-in email lists?

What about Dealtime, BizRate, etc...

probably not. opt-in lists are rarely opt-in at all. someone just rounds up thousands of email addresses and sells them, claiming that everyone on the list opted in. even if people do opt in to a mailing list, they generally opt in to get information about one thing, not to have their email address sold to spammers around the world and not to receive irrelevant junk mail.

You!

Existing customers is a good place to start, as they are not only opt-in - they are also the easier sale (product dependent).
