Does classified ads work?

Hi.
I've started promotion for my luxury goods shop -

I tried publish my ads to different classifieds many times.
I used some autosubmit programs.

Result was awful. I had 1-2 visitors from classifieds per day.

I'm interesting in good traffic classifieds and bulkgoods upload classifieds. (I mean I need upload descriptions for many goods, about 500)

Have anybody experience with classifieds?
Where and how can I publish my ads for good traffic?

I had a client that insisted in running classified ads. After running several in major markets we did not see a blip in traffic or orders.

agesd - Look at it this way, how often do you or people you know take the time to sit and read through Internet classified ads to shop? How do you or people you know shop on the web? Answer these questions and you will know where to advertise... Many people claim to enjoy mail order success from magazine or newspaper classifieds. I've not yet heard of this from web ads though.

I know of several such success stories, selling quality items in the national tabloid classified sections. Some of these have become remarkably profitable home businesses.
It makes me wonder if you could drive good traffic to a website from a print classified with good distribution.

Have you looked through newsgroups where your items are either a topic or of interest? There are some 30,000 newsgroups out there and if you target the right ones you might have some success. I know of some people who have done very well going this route as compared to classified ads.

Yep, you can ;) I regularly launch a site with print classifieds while I'm waiting for SEs to catch on, and while the results are nothing spectacular it always makes a decent impression and generates some initial traffic.

Of course, if these ads are free, then it's definitely worth doing...
