Quick query- I have refunded user in full for an out of stock order. They have queried me saying that they did not receive full amount back on their card.

This is the first time I have been queried on this.

Does worldpay charge the user or only the merchant.

It is a bit complicated because there are two countries involved and two currencies

Or is it more likely their own bank/credit card company, charging them for using their card

Thank you

Usually when you issue a refund - let's say the customer bought $100. You will issue them a $100 refund. You will be charged (previously) for the discount rate and also the transaction rates.

As far as the currency conversion, I would try to make it as close as possible to what they have already been out, to prevent a chargeback

If a currency conversion is involved, it is almost guaranteed that the refunded amount will not be exactly the amount originally charged. This is a fact of life. Sometimes the difference benefits the customer, other times it goes the opposite way.

I remember when my then girlfriend (from Korea) and I visited the States (my home) while the Korean won was tanking at the start of the Asian financial crisis some years back. She bought something on her credit card and ended up returning it a few days later. Because of the exchange rate differences between when she bouught it and returned it, she ended up "making" about $25.

refunds via worldpay should be the full amount in the currency they paid in
check in your CMS and if you've refunded in full then they should have a full refund - any discrepancies probably due to their card issuer
