Hi Everyone!

Am I the only one that has problems with fraudulent payments?

I just had a new cancelled payment on my PayPal account?

$280 disappeared from my account!

Any suggestions are WELCOME!

Thanks,

Onelly

just because something is cancelled doesn't always mean "fraudulent".

It is always better to blame yourself first and the customers last.

I know that I am not going to recover anything but I just hoped the someone knows more than I do about how to better protect against fraud.

The fact is that on my PayPal account stays "Cancelled Payment"

However PayPal writes me that I have received fraudulent payment from this customer.

Even if it was to be a cancelled payment I just don't understand how someone can cancel a payment one and a half month after purchase and after the service has been delivered.

hi onelly and welcome to WebmasterWorld

fraud is a problem and there is a lot of very good advice right here in the Ecommerce forum. best thing you can do is read back through old threads - there is far too much information and advice to repeat it all again in this one message!

I've just had a chargeback from WorldPay going back to August.

The customer can chargeback (or cancel in the case of PayPal) for 6 months after the guarantee runs out. For most products, this is 18 months.

Always track your items, have confirmation etc. You need proof that the person received the object purchased. The wonders of CC over the Net is you can CANCEL anyTHING!

I haven't had anything canceled with paypal for any payments and im surprised because the crowd is all hacker oriented, not saying a hacker would commit credit card fraud but there would be more crackers amoungst that bunch than others.

It seems amoungst all my affiliate sites the adult site has the most fraud - again thats affiliate so it doesnt reflect anything on me.

I think that fraud represents about 20% of my chargebacks.

Of the fraudulent cases, about 1/2 are unauthorized use or stolen cards.

The other half seems to be people that claim they never received the goods (UPS will leave a parcel at a residential address without a signature) - on some of these we give the customer the benefit of the doubt, but others don't pass the smell test. In any case, remember that you can go back to your shipper on these - UPS automatically insures everything for $100, so you can put in a claim with them for at least that much.

I read the PayPal Wall of Shame and then cancelled my PayPal account. Thanks for the heads up.

I thought you could pay an extra fee for delivery confirmation, and require that the package is signed for... Add the extra cost to your shipping and handling charges.

Yup! $1 US Dollar. Use it all the time, with no problems. ;)

I suppose it depends on the pricetag and margins of the items that you are selling. The extra dollar per package would cost me an additional $1,200 per week. I'm not losing near that much now, especially considering that you can put a claim in with UPS for up to $100 if the customer claims they didn't get the package.
