£5 charge - what a joke

WorldPay in there wisdom have decided to charge £5 for a code 10 check - 90% of the time you need to do a code 10 is to check an AVS result that shows as not matched when the customer insists it is correct - and most of the time the customer is right and the AVS result is wrong, so we now have to pay WorldPay £5 for the priveledge of their systems producing incorrect information - good customer relations there WorldPay!

I was about to post this. I wonder whether this charge applies to all Worldpay customers or just to those who have using this service a lot.

i've had the same email - very disappointing
i've done 11 code10 checks in the last 14 months ....

i've checked AVS results for all transactions over the last 6 months for a number of websites I manage and that use worldpay

on the plus side, 69.76% of all transactions come in with AVS = 2222 - code10 isn't necessary with AVS matches like this

on the down side, 10.9% have at least one 1 (not checked) - this is where code10 is most useful - 10.9% is way too high

I haven't received any email about this, and I'm a WP customer, in fact i don't even know what a 'Code 10' is?

Is it something the merchant has to iniiciate, or are these 'checks' done by worldpay automatically.

P.s. i'm based in the uk if that makes any difference.

>>i don't even know what a 'Code 10' is

it's a manual AVS check - they contact the card issuer to verify the address
it was free, and not very well publicised - and now they charge a fiver

if you haven't had the email, you may be able to get a code 10 check for free
send an email to code10 AT worldpay.com with your company ID and the customer / AVS details, asking for a code10 check
might take a few days to get a response if they have to fax details over to the bank ..........

To be targetted for just 11 Code 10 checks in 14 months is just ridiculous. We must have done 1-2000 checks in the same period.

Anyway, it may be possible to go to streamline and do the check directly yourself. In any case, we will be looking at other merchant account providers.

don't think changing will solve anything much - i don't reckon other provider have brilliant avs either

look at the number of US / CA merchants in here that say they can't do AVS checks for UK/EU companies .......

reading merchant911 emails, people are taking cards manually then phoning card companies to do manual verification - looks like a time-consuming way of doing business ..........

It is just that there are probably cheaper merchant accounts around. The main reason why we have stayed with Worldpay is their excellent fraud screening service, now that has gone....

if you're doing that many code10 checks, then you're pumping a lot of money through worldpay, so you should be able to get a much lower rate which should be competitive with other providers ........

i'm trying to find out what security / fraud screening other providers have and how good it is, but they seem reluctant to tell very much.

We never get a code 10 in the past 4 years. If AVS result showing post code / address not matched/checked, we normally do a manaul check via www.192.com first, then phone the customer. If not found in 192 then we normally refuse to dispatch the goods.

We found many of the UK chargebacks are related to the customer's mistake: they forget they have purchase anything from us. We have to follow the worldpay's rules to get customer's signature, and reverse the chargeback.

The bad thing with worldpay is they still charge £10 for chargeback even if it is reversed back to us again.

Worldpay is also bad that they will not refund their charges if we issue refund.

At least Paypal will refund their charges if we refund the customer.

I wonder if GooglePay - when it surfaces - will be the answer to our prayers? The ease and facilities of PayPal, but without the 'smell'.
