I've used netbanx for over 5 years with no problems at all.

Never liked paypal due to some horror stories in their early days. Also I believe you have to register with them before paying or the payment procedure looks daunting which creates a hurdle for potential customers.

You have to ask which will give you a) more profit, b) more sales.

Which one takes the most commission?

Where are the majority of your customers from? If the US then paypal is probably better as they may not want to pay a UK site.

Of course you can always offer both options.

You no longer have to register with Paypal and I have used it for a couple of years with no problems. I have an inquiry from a client who specifies Netbanx. I looked at their terms and apart from requiring a substantial setup fee their commission charges at the lower end are higher than Paypal's.

I can see no real reason for going with Netbanx and I was just wondering if I am missing something?

Bee is correct about not having to register, but that needs clarification. PayPal has evolved from an online wallet system, and can now act as a credit card gateway/merchant account.

Customers who wish to pay using their PayPal account must register to open an account. Same as before.

Customers who want nothing to do with PayPal accounts can pay with a credit card. The merchant can process the credit card thru PayPal Website Payments Pro, but the customer doesn't see the word "PayPal" at all. Funds are settled *immediately* into the Merchant's PayPal account.

A third option is the PayPal Shopping Cart. Again, customers can use a credit card without registering with PayPal, but they are aware that PayPal is involved.

Yes, but as Frank_Rizzo says the Pro version is only available in the US.

PayPal's Website Payments Pro includes APIs for processing credit cards without transferring the customer to PayPal's website. This feature is only available for US merchants.

With PayPal's Website Payments Standard, you can still accept credit card payments from customers without PayPal accounts. The Account Optional checkout allows customers to complete payment without creating an account. This feature is available for merchants in most countries, except Germany and some countries where PayPal cannot be used to receive payments.

What I mean about the paypal site being too daunting is that you have a lot more options / text to read and that can make users drop the cart and go elsewhere.

Some people don't like entering their phone number and can also drop the cart at that stage.

Paypal ask for it Netbanx doesn't.
