Oscommerce art site profitable?

Hi mates, I am launching an oscommerce art store selling original abstract paintings of an artist not really known at all, but she has very good quality paintings etc, she makes sales in her normal life of course, so what I wante dto knwo if somebody of you had any experience selling paintings online, and if you got any tips please do let me know.

I tried it and failed.

Make sure you have GOOD clear photos of the worksgiving details about them i.e painting techniques etc.

Im not sure why i failed but I did,

You will need to reach to the big buyers and will need many doors openning to the site. ebay for example. You can start with a third party shopping cart - payment processor (2CO is a good one.)and when you see the light, you can switch to your own merchant account. I still find 3rd party ones more useful and hassle free even if you're selling expensive items in big quantities.
