Hi,

I need a very simple system that can take hotel reservation bookings over a website and can securely collect credit card details into a database. We will then process the orders manually by hand using our own machine. We do not want a system that automatically takes payment as we have to manually check for availability for each booking before processing payments.

Ideally we would get an email notification of each booking, that we would then log into a back end to get the details for (i am guessing that this is the most secure way to do it).

It needs to be totally safe and instill enough confidence in the system for people to be willing to give us their cc details through it.

Will I need a custom solution or is there something out there that can do this for me?

Thanks for any help or advice!

You don't necessarily need to run the orders through your own machine - some of the hosted 'payment service providers' (ie credit card processing companies) have a system where you have the opportunity to manually approve a transaction before the customer's credit card is billed.

I know that Worldpay offer this, and while I can't unreservedly recommend them, they're no worse than average. Ask them about a 'post-auth' account.

I have set up systems for a couple of Bed & Breakfasts and a day spa that do what you are wanting. I used Mal's E-Commerce which is a remotely hosted cart system. One of the options available is to post directly to the payments page and bypass the shopping cart. This allows you to gather all the reservation info in a standard reservation form then have a button to "Enter Credit Card" or such.

It works good and is much easier to implement than creating a secure system from scratch or modifying many of the carts I have seen. The instructions on posting directly to the payments page are in the help files on Mal's site, but you might have to look a bit for the part you need.

Thanks for your helpful advice. Has anyone had a custom system built? What would the main issues be with using a custom solution?
