Another Shopping Cart Question!

I've been asked to create a website for a customer who wants to sell their products (currently 3) online. They know that I've never implemented a shopping cart before, but they would still like some questions answered before I start work.

1. How are shopping carts updated? Do they usually have a secure login area built in that the customer can upload new images/amend text, or would I (the web developer) have to make any changes.

2. How would my customer receive order information? Do shopping carts generally send an email or would the customer have to login to the shopping cart etc.

I'm guessing that a decent (php based) shopping cart would allow someone to login and amend products and upload images? I also need a shopping cart that allows me to keep the same look and feel of the customer's site.

Can anyone recommend a shopping cart that meets my needs or do they all work pretty much the same? If anyone has any thoughts on any of the above please reply!

Thanks in advance

1. Shopping do usually have a secure page for you to sign in and update the cart, products, price, etc.

2. The shopping cart is setup to automatically send you an order confirmation email. They usually have a few different types of forms they send you, contact forms, order confirmation forms, webmaster contact forms, etc.

You can get just about any shopping cart skinned to look like the site. Most cart companies will skin the cart for you for under $50
It's not really hard to do, you just need intermediate knowledge of html

I've used x-cart, litecommerce, and clickcartpro and they are all really easy to skin
