Does anyone have experience of Make-a-store?

Looking to set up new 5,000 product store

The company I work for wants to launch a new online store selling about 5000 products to supplement our existing online store. Our current site was custom designed from the ground up four years ago and as a result cost us a great deal of money.

We want to create a new site using an off the shelve product and have come across a product called Heavy Metal which is available from Make-a-store.com. Has anyone used this to build a store and if so what are the good and bad points?

Antz, I haven't used make-a-store though I can suggest few options that you should analyze while supplementing a large webstore like yours. One would be easy migration of product information from the current to the new store and second would be the search engine friendliness which has become imperative for today's online businesses. You may also want to inquire if the shopping cart software company is open to making simple customizations that you might need as your business grows.

I came across a very good website costumezone.com during my recent shopping experience. You can check with them what application do they use.

I may still try and help you out with the right store if you answer following questions.

What is your budget?, What are main features that your company is looking for in the new store?
The other way to ask you is would be … What made you decide upon Make-a-store?

Getting more details will help all of us here to give the right recommendation.

The reason we were looking at Make-a-store was that it seemed to offer everything we want out of a package and seemed to be easy to design the site how we wanted. Obviously there are hundreds of ecommerce systems out there and no one seems to be able to agree on which ones are good or bad.

Our budget can be up to £5k and as for the list of features, well, there are far too many to mention, but a built-in affiliate programme and SE friendliness are certainly two of the features we'd like to see.

I’ve heard nothing but good things about Make-a-Store.

Lots of big names seem to use them, and their tools and modules seem to cover anything you could ever do :)
