Has anyone ever rented an email list to advertise? What were your experiences with that? Was it worth it?

too much information

A few years ago, I built my own list of specific customers that I wanted to approach. Then sent out a pitch, and got TONS of hate mail back, and one customer.

Overall I decided that email lists were not for me, maybe it is because of my wording, or sales pitch, but either way that is the last time I tried it.

I'm wondering if it's still worth it, considering that so many mass emailings are being sent to the Bulk folder or not even reaching the targeted recipient at all.

It's best to give them information that is useful to them. Trying to sell to them is a turn off. We get about 10,000 new subscribers per year. That is a ton of free exposure. Pepper your copy with links back to your site.

Newsletters...
1. Build a relationship with potential customers
2. Create trust and credibility.
3. Keep your name in the potential customers minds.

And it's free! Look into the cost of sending out direct mailings and you will realize the opportunity you are missing.

"it's free" assuming that you already HAVE a list of email addresses to send to. What if you don't?

What do you expect everything to be handed to you? Build a list! If you're looking at ecommerce as a get rich quick scheme....you'll never make it. It's like any other business and it takes a lot of work.
