Site submission services?

What is the story with these site submission services that claim that they can list you on several of the "top" paid submission sites for $49-$99 bucks in 48 hours. Which in many cases is less than the submission cost to any one single primary search engine?

What's the gimick? Do such submissions provide value? If so, why and which one is the best, or is there such a thing with this type of service?

Here are example services:

Thanks

Tesla, generally the "trick" to those things is that they submit a page to Inktomi -- which you could do yourself for $39. For that price you'd get a 48-hour spidering cycle and would appear on a number of search engine sites including (as of right now) MSN and AOL.

I haven't confirmed whether that's the case with the example sites you mentioned -- but every time I have looked at a site that said that, their list of search engines has corresponded closely to the list of Inktomi-fed sites.

Here is the biggest problem with submission services. That's all they do is submit. You can do that yourself. What good is a submission if the page is not optimized?

Most of them advertise resubmit every 30 days. No longer a requirement. Usually once you are in, you are in for a while, there is no need to resubmit. The monthly resubmissions are usually targeted at link lists where your link rotates out of the mix and a resubmit needs to be done to keep it there. Mostly junk!

There are submission services that are reputable and offer a viable solution to volume submissions. But, if the site is not optimized to begin with, submissions are useless other than a possible link popularity inflation through listings in all the smaller resources that these companies submit to.

I agree to an extent pg1. It all depends upon what the fine print says. What is it that they really do for you?

If it includes some paid submission, or url management and tracking, then it really is more than just a submission service. Most however, don't do that.

Hello Brett. Didn't mean to sound like I was against submission services. I just know from experience that about 98% of them are generally useless for a site that has not been optimized in any way. The typical advertising reads that they will get you listed within a certain time frame. Listed does nothing for me when the page is buried beyond 30 results in the SERP's.

I know of two highly reputable services that do what they say and provide all the backend support as you mention; URL Management and Tracking. These are very different from your everyday submission services.
