How do i add a search content facility for my website?

You know like a search box that query's a database of content in the server side and gives a set of links to content articels as answers to the user search queries.

What implications does such a facility have on on SEO?

You can implement one of the freely available Perl scripts, or write your own.
The search engines don't generally like dynamic content, so they won't spider search query results. As such, you'll want static pages - like a catalogue - that can be browsed.

I've been happily using a third-party search engine service called "FreeFind" for a couple of years.

They've got a free version with advertising, and several levels of paid service. Automatically crawls my web site every week, provides a site map, full search capability and e-mailed reports of search activity each week and each month.

I would recomment the free Google search box - users will already be familiar with the format - i've put the search box in its own page on my web-site so as to monitor its use. I find that its usually the third or fourth most popular file downloaded every day.
