I am planning to open an offline office for my online businesses this summer. The plan is to hire 3-4 employees to start. My question is what sales/order management software is a good option for online sales? Right not everything I use is custom scripted by limited. I need a program to syncronize orders, customers, payments, etc, so employees on different machines can always access updated information. Ideally this software would allow employees to make or enter order changes as well as make actual credit card charges or refunds. I always wondering what large online businesses use, we you call up and get one of a hundred sales people they can always access your order, make changes, process refunds, make charges, etc. What programs are they using? Such as large companies like backcountry.com, or any mid to large sized online company. Are there any boxed retail order management applications on the market?

Thanks
Tom

tomld2,

There is a myriad of order fulfillment software out there....

One of the big questions for any eMerchant to answer when evaluating software platforms is:

Do you fulfill 100% of your orders in house, or are some/all of your orders drop shipped direct from a distributor/manufacturer level?

If you do some drop shipping, Order Motion is a very popular platform.

Here are some programs for you to look at:

- Mail Order Manager by Dydacomp
- Ecometry
- Response by Colinear
- Controller + by sigma-micro

Many of the larger companies that don't use custom software use one of the above programs.
