Shipping to Honduras

fairly safe?

We ship quite a few internet orders, but they've always been to countries that I know are fairly reliable.

I just received my first order inquiry from Honduras. I couldn't find anything on Google about avoiding orders from this country, but thought I'd check to hear of any experiences here.

This potenial customer would be having the order shipped to a company in Miami that handles his payment and shipping (payment via credit card). I have 2 other customers that have a similar arrangement, so this, in itself, isn't too unusual.

Any (good or bad) experiences in dealing with customers from Honduras?

Thanks for any thoughts,

Rachel

I haven't heard of any warnings regarding Honduras but that being said, anytime the ship to is different from the billing I would be a bit worried.

How much is the order for? Does the customer seem very eager? Are they requesting express shipping?

I don't know about shipping things to Honduras, but last time I visited there I watched a cow step on a land mine and go "POOF!"

The order would be a little over 4 grand. He didn't commit to buying, but asked for a price quote, so he doesn't seem to be over eager. No express shipping, either. It'd go via freight truck to Miami, and then they send it over via boat whenever he gets a full load (at least this is what I understand of how it works from my other customers that use this method).

Opie, ewww! :)

Have them fax over proof of identity (license) and/or employment. Something that can be verified and used as ammunition in case of a chargeback.

That's a good idea, duckhunter. I was also planning on faxing them a credit card form to sign, date, and send back like some of my vendors do.

We have tons of requests for large overseas orders weekly - most of them never pan out. Orders to foreign countries that are 4K+ would not be something that I would chance. It's tempting, but VERY risky regardless of what "proof" is faxed over for identity. Your chance of recouping a loss is slim to none regardless of proof.

Yup, no chance of recoup since it is international transaction and there is protection against it no matter how much proof you have.

Wire Transfer, Western Union, or MoneyGram from now on. Central and South America is becoming fraud ridden like Africa and Southeast Asia.
