Hi there

I am looking into setting up an ecommerce site and want to get some ideas of how to do this and the type of costs involved.

I need to make sure the shopping cart is search engine friendly and I will also need to take payment online so will need a merchant account. I don't have a lot of money to spend so would like to know how much one needs to pay out for shopping cart software and payment fees fpr the merchant account (in British piunds if poss)

Thanks

Your best bet to set this up on the cheap would be to build static pages and hook up to Mal's "free" shopping cart for a start.

About a thousand pounds should get you started including hosting fees, merchant account costs and site set up costs.
Could be a bit less, but you will always run into hidden costs or ones you have not thought about.

Depends on how much you can do for yourself.

go to [cubecart.com...] and install the script on your server. Local or colo whatever you have available.

Merchant accounts range in price but CC can work with quite a few gateways including the easy and cheap PayPal.

Good Luck

I have 3 shopping carts set up for your reference, 2 of them have backend admin, the rest looks more attractive. Take a look yourself at

they all have the features you required, I will further customize it to meet your needs

I use osCommerce. It is free and configurable. There is a learning curve, but the price is right.

I was under the impression the links were not permitted. Onto the topic oscommerce will keep your cost down however it is not that search engine friendly out of the box and as stated it does have a learning curve. Other solutions you may want to look at is ecommercetemplates reasonably priced, search engine friendly and design friendly, intergates with paypal, authorizenet, worldpay and a bunch of others.

I thought so too webtress. I guess these forums are not moderated as much anymore? I have noticed quite a number of links lately. Maybe they are a little more lax?

The conference is starting today so I doubt there will be many moderators around.

Oh so that explains all the promo click here for my cart forum spamming links.

Is that the case with this forum? You are not allowed to post links?

That may explain this thread then ....

[webmasterworld.com...]

I had posted a link to an open source e-commerce CMS I have used.

Is it normal here for the mod to not say anything about them deleting your post too?

Odd rule isn't it?
