Can anyone recommend a good book about web design and usability specifically for e-commerce sites.

Steve(?) Krug's Don't Make Me Think

Jakob Neilson's E-commerce User Experience

Both books are excellent (IMO)!

Nielsen's book is often mentioned here. I have a copy and have found it quite useful.

The catch is that no matter what book you buy, you need to apply your personal experience from the point of view of a complete newbie buyer to the experienced veteran. Each has different needs and the better you are able to accommodate them, the more likely you will be to make the sale.

Steve Krug's "Don't make me think" is good- fast read.
Talks about usability testing too.

The Design of Sites by Van Duyne, Landay, and Hong.

Any book that you pick up will have a lot of common-sensical things. This book is no exception - however, there is value to reading these common sense tips, which are described in quite some details.
