Which gateway?

Authorize.net, Verisign, others?

We are migrating from Yahoo store soon, and will need to choose a new gateway since we've been using Yahoo's own internal one.

I know many people like Authorize.net but I am concerned that they seem to be unable to completely overcome the denial of service attacks they have been hit with.

So the question is:

Which gateway(s) do you like or dislike and why?

Thanks for your feedback!

The LinkPoint payment gateway is probably one of the strongest out there. It is owned by the First Data Corporation. First Data has been doing electronic money transfers since 1871 and they were the first processor of both VISAŽ and MasterCardŽ bank-issued credit cards in 1976. First Data processed 12.2 billion transactions in North America alone in 2003. Recurring billing is free for LinkPoint. LinkPoint has been down once in the past three years.

Authorize.net is probably the most advertised electronic gateway. A lot of people think they can sign up with them and immediately start to accept credit cards. They do not release you need a merchant account as well. Authorize.net even uses the First Data platform to help facilitate transaction processing. This gateway also charge extra for recurring billing. Authorizenet.com has been down about six times in the past year alone.

Verisign also has a payment gateway. Verisign is probably the most recognized name because they also offer other services and products for the internet (i.e. SSL certificates, domain registration, hosting, etc). You do not need to purchase everything from Verisign to have a successful e-commerce business.

We use IC Verify. We have tried other gateways and this solution seems to be the best long term

First Data has been doing electronic money transfers since 1871

Since First data wasn't around at that time. The company that Corey is referring to is also known as Western Union - which is now a subsidary of First Data. This does give First Data a strong footing.

Okay, so we have a vote for Linkpoint and for IC Verify. I hadn't heard of the first one and thought the second one was mainly for card machines and not online authorization... I'll look into both.

What do you guys like about these two? Do they have or lack any features authorize.net has?

Any other votes?

Thanks!

Linkpoint & Authorizenet.com both offer an API (to capture & process credit card data on your website) and they offer their own secure webpage as well.

LinkPoint is usually about $15-$30 a month with no other transaction costs involved when using a merchant account from Cardservice. Authorizenet.com is usually about $15-$30 a month, and $.10 for each transaction (this is on top of the transaction costs imposed by the merchant account provider (MAP)). LinkPoint offers free recurring billing, authorizenet.com charges about $25.00 extra a month for this service.

From a different view point.

As a ecom platform provider, I have connected clients to both platforms.

Each is relatively straight forward to set-up.

Because of the recent brown outs of authorize, I have spent more time in supporting it.

Basically I am just passing sales data, as long it goes through without a hitch I am happy.

When it doesn't I am the first one that gets the call.

My margins are small, so any malfunction, no matter the cause, digs in to my bottom line.

So which one do you find more reliable? Were you saying Verisign is better lately?

Thanks again

Authorize.net works excellently for me.

I've used and my clients use them all. The best and most reliable are TrustCommerce and CybersSource. Authorize.net has had hacked issues and DDOS issues.

Anyone who has dealt a great deal with payment solutions should back these two companies up.

My personal choice is TC because they seem to give better customer service and attention.

Good luck

We've implemented support for about 25 gateways, and by far the most popular among our merchants is authorize.net. This did cause quite a bit of headache though during their recent DDoS attack, but other than that they are a fine gateway.

Personally, I find ECHO [echo-inc.com] and LinkPoint [linkpoint.com] offer terrific service & support.

Verisign is technically complete, but is a bit too expensive for smaller volume merchants.

Good Luck!

I used to dislike ikobo but now it's my first payment provider. They've made long steps this year. I am happy with their present offer. Does anyone of you use their affiliate program? How much do I get for 1 referral?
