Accepting Payments Online: Third Party Merchant Accounts

I want to sell online, and to accept credit card payments. opening a merchant account is expensive, especially for small businesses who are just starting.

option : third party credit card processing services
my Question which service is best for an existing Australian bricks and mortar business looking to accept credit cards

option : bank transfer, one client who is proving quite successful on ebay says that he also uses bank transfer

option : Aust. Post COD

option : if any other suggestions please; else see option 1

Thanks
Ben

If I could have gone back in time I would have got Authorize.net a lot sooner. We used paypal, then 2checkout, and now authorize.net. Its only $20 a month I think.

Auth.net is actually only a payment gateway. They usually charge about $.10 more per each transaction. This is on tope of what most merchant account providers (MAPS) will charge (which is usually $.25-$.35 each). The monthly rate is usually between $15-$30 a month.

Verisign is about $60 a month, but they give you about 1,000 transactions a month for free. And additional transactions are $.10.

LinkPoint is usually about $15-30 a month and they do not charge anything for each transaction if you use a Cardservice merchant account. The transaction total is usually about $.25-$.35 each.

As far as Australia though, I have heard good things about Paymate
