Hi, I have been looking at x-cart recently.

It is a nice package and I was about to buy it when I saw that it requires PHP safe mode to be disabled.

I asked my host and they would not do this on the grounds it is a security hole.

It is not much use asking x-cart themselves as they would say it is OK.

I am looking for a few opinions - is X-Cart a flawed product in this respect or is my host been overly cautious.

cheers
Simon

PHP safe mode can conflict with lots of things. I'd say that your host is overly cautious but I'm not a PHP guy.

I have always run with safe mode off on all sites, more of a pain than anything else.

Just my uninformed $0.03, but it would scare me to hear that a *shopping cart* software requires a low-security setting.

I suppose you could still secure the server outside of PHP, but this does require some expertise.
