At the moment, I reckon I'd be categorised as a small business/player in the ecommerce website.

Does anyone have a rough figure for a site to turnover before being considered a 'medium' presence? And how bout a 'big player', what do you need to be taking to be considered that?

Was just wondering...

I think you become a big player when you can afford your own Laywers.

But serious, I don't know if you should classify that based on $$$ income. I usually look at other stats such as Web traffic, Google PR, etc.

Why would you not class it on revenue? What's the point in having a PR of 10 and thousands of daily visitors if no one ever buys anything?

I tend to classify it by revenue and whether the owner can leave the business.

My business is small right now. I do about $250,000 in sales (not profit) a year. That allowed my husband to quit his job to take over the shipping, and I also have a part-time guy who helps in the warehouse. When we go on vacation, the business basically shuts down. People can place orders, but nothing ships.

I'll be medium-sized when we get closer to 1 million a year, and I can take off 2 or 3 weeks at a time while the business runs as usual.

I'm guessing about a mil and a half would be large, but only if I can have nothing to do with the day to day running without losing business.

I don't think my oldest business will ever grow above "medium" in terms of sales, but if my newest venture goes as planned, I should be at "large" in the next couple years.

I guess the numbers will be different for every business, but I'd also like to hear what others think, and how they categorize their own business.
