Email Marketing in the UK, who sells respectable lists?

Hi,
I am looking to find list of emails , all opted in of course, of exceptional quality, all in date... Ahhh.

Problem is, how do I know who to trust? With spamming so prevalent these days, it is a worry.

Can anyone advise some good companies that can help me with this? Who have you used successfully?

Don't want much do you? :)

When we do email shots we use the highest quality source we know... our own database

If you want something doing properly, do it yourself...

You could always resell it once its built

I know, I know, as a great man once said:

"...want a job doing well, do it yourself... "

or

"..there are no quick fixes that fix anything.."

But for this site I have my own list, and I want to extend it. All these Marketing Gurus keep telling me how great email marketing is, and I want to find out myself. (Bin a sceptic too long :) )

Trouble is, not that I don't TRUST them you understand, just that I would like a third party recommendation. Not many, are there?

Hmmm, yes, at least external recommendation gives you a starting point.

My own personal viewpoint, having been involved in marketing database buying, is don't trust ANYONE. There is a fundamental misalignment of interests, ie you want the fewest, most targetted addresses, and the vendor needs to shift as many as possible

Also, if you can buy the address, so can someone else. Or many someone elses. When they spam the address to death, your own extremely targetted, carefully selected and highly personalised message is likely to get the "More spam. Delete" treatment, simply because its arrived.

Maybe try chatting up the editors of a few of the big newsletters in your topic area? Placing a text ad in a reputable online publication can work very well, and someone else is doing all the hard data maintenance
