Hmmm, its only the last year or so that I started to trust the 'Net enough to buy things over it, and I've been using the Web for about 8 years, and working with it for 2 or 3. The line that made me laugh was "Only large corporations rated as low as Web sites" for trust. I guess its the "faceless" image thing in both cases. At least the news media face some official oversight, which keeps their worst excesses in check

Good point. Yes, now that you mention it, I think that's likely to be the reason more than just because it's "the internet."

I'm not sure that the percentage of those that have an inkling re dirty serps is as high as 40% ...anecdotal evidence here would suggest significantly less than that.
