Subscription access or individual products?

Ideas? What's best?

Hi,

I'm going to create a site, but I can't decide how to design it. I have a ton of instructional material to offer in audio, video and text format. I will also provide a help forum for students who have trouble with any of the material and a community forum to discuss the main topic and motivate people to get through the instructional material.

What do you think is the best way to setup a site like this? Should I sell 1-year subscriptions to access all the materials and private forums? Or should I have public forums and charge for baskets of the instructional materials? Or do you have some other brilliant idea?

Thanks for your input!

why not both?

Offer a la carte items AND subscription package (for less, of course).

That's a good point. I suspect I will be doing a lot of work on the help forum and I want to keep administration as simple as possible. But now I'm considering somewhere inbetween where I sell subscriptions to blocks of products rather than full access. That may be easy to manage. Thanks for your helpful feedback.
