Well, looks like the summer has arrived and business has been affected accordingly.

Just wanted to poll WebmasterWorlders:

- Has it arrived early for you? Late? Just on time?

- What sort of affect does it have on your industry? What is your industry?

- What sort of things do you do to deal with the summer slowness? (or speediness, as the case may be!)

- When do you expect things to pick up (or slow down) again for your industry?

Looking forward to your answers.

Had an early dip, went back up again, now going back down again. Crazy English weather!

Quite a bit; socks! (No, seriously) :)

Do school work instead ;P

Well, the sock industry can be very volatile! (Kidding :P) but seriously speaking, I'd say it depends entirely on the weather, plus when it starts to pick up August/September (holidays, people not working) and towards Christmas.

Can't wait to hear what other people have got to say.

James.

Slow time ecommerce activities:
  1. try new products targeting the conditions causing the slump i.e. heaters in winter, air conditioers in summer.
  2. remember that the internet is the world (or is it the other way?) and market the other hemisphere i.e. summer in Canada and the UK is winter in New Zealand and Australia (and the language and laws are similar!).
  3. or relax and in summer go swimming, in winter go skiing and forget sales.

Of course socks are year round: cotton in summer, wool in winter, wearing out each and every day - love it :-)

Summertime is our low season - we are a very seasonal travel related business. On the ground we have next to nothing. A couple of years ago, before we really developed a decent web site, we spent the summer playing computer games.

Now, it's time to prepare for the high season (starts around October). Web site gets a lot less attention during the busy time, as we have many customers to deal with. So my first job has been to check the site for errors in code, spelling etc.. that were not noticed before. Then I have been busy doing some learning..Have added things to our site that I never knew about or knew how to do such as slide shows, safesurfing ratings, new images..

Also more time to read webmasterworld, where as usual I find some gems of information.

Web site prices and schedules all updated for next season.

Oh, and we moved to a new office this last week. Things like this must be done in the low season!

We can't afford to slack off. There are still emails and enquiries to answer. Bookings start early. We send out a newsletter at this time of year to advise people whats coming up and whats new.

And finally some days to devote to good old SEO things links link hunting. It does not stop.

Just a question to other webmasters...I sometimes wonder if I am "fiddling" with our web site too much. It ranks well, gets plenty of traffic, but I can't resist the urge to fiddle. Like I worry that it will get stale If I leave it alone. Anyone else feel the same? Especially in quieter times, when you either twiddle your thumbs or try to find some work to do...

Hi,

'Fiddling' seems to be good for a web site as I think that Google likes to see some changes to a website, not exactly changing the looks every month but a new page here some change in content there...

I am also in the Travel trade and in this office there is 'no' off season!

From weekly news letters to link exchanges, new sites (in the past 5 months we have made 3 sites) new content and loads a things to be getting on with!

Webmaster World Helps alot... ;)
