I searched for Affiliate program network on Google and clicked on top listing.

snipped

The web site looks legit but as soon as I went into it, it downloaded a whole bunch of trojans onto my computer concerned with adult web sites and other advertisements.

Now the default homepage of my Internet Explorer is set at: a directory

There are popups all the time which cannot be blocked by Google toolbar, MSN messenger messages appear suddenly, and a adult dial-up icon on my desktop.

This is the sickest Internet experience I have ever had, I don't know how to get rid of these trojans.

The fact that this listing is in the pole position for a very common search term is a trap for other webmasters. If this sort of thing continues unabated on the Internet, it is going to put people surfing altogether.

If anyone can offer any advice on how to get rid of this s---t! It would be highly appreciated.

If I have to restore my computer from scratch, it would take a working day.

Now we have another problem to sort out. Some of our customers have complained of receiving virus containing e-mails from us, yet Norton could not detect any viruses from our systems. I may have to reformat all our computers in the end.

You can almost count of them being spoofed emails. Viruses tend to scan a persons mailbox addresses. It's likely that someone who has your email address in their address book has the virus and the spam mail the virus is sending ( big money ) is using it to spoof the emails. Formatting your computer will not change this since the problem is probably not with your computer. New laws are being introduced to make spam email a big crime so some companies are now using viruses and spoofing ramdom email addresses to send the junk mail - so its very hard to trace the orginator of the email.

As far as security is concerned various adaware and spyware programs should be used like adaware 6 and spybot. Nortons does a good job with viruses and some trojans. To protect from trojans you need a seperate program. TD3 is highly recommended throughout the industry as well as pest patrol. Your also need a good firewall like zonealarm, nortons, mcafee, as well as keeping your windows patched with the latest security vunerablities.

Never install your security programs as the default names. Virus will go straight into those files and attempt to knock out your security. Always change Program files/nortons.exe to something like Program files/rtie22.exe when installing. That will give you some protection.

Personally td3 will almost certainly be able to find nearly all trojans and clean your system.

After trying a number of scumware detectors/removers on 3 of my PC consulting client's infected machines, i settled on PestPatrol.

It found and removed more pests than any other product and (unlike AdAware and LinkDefender) it left nothing installed that they could later detect.

All symptoms of infection where gone from all 3 problem systems and there have been no recurrences, after using PestPatrol.

No, i'm not an affiliate, just a happy customer :)
Oh, and i have now used it on my systems too, for the last 3 months.
