New Amex Internet sales contract

Amex requires use of their own encryption software

Amex has just sent me a new contract to sign which absolves them of any responsibility to even contact the merchant in the event of a chargeback and offers no avenue for recourse. What concerns me more is that they say that the merchant must use their own encryption software for credit card information. I already have a 128 bit SSL certificate and no ready means of integrating their own propietary software. I am curious as to how others are dealing with this dilemma. I am tempted to cancel Amex altogether although they represent about 20% of my sales and I don't want to lose that business.

Amex is making considerable moves in the world today. I think alot of these steps they are taking are in response to need to expand their consumer market.

if amex is a PITA then just drop it. I never used to take it as it was a seperate subscription fee. I took when offered it for free and it makes no difference some people do use it but they would simply use another card if you did not take Amex I think.

Obviously there may be a few lost sales but are they worth the hasssle?

I dropped AMEX in less than a month because they sent me a similar letter. I have only had a couple people ask about it and they have been B2B sales. Most have another card they can use, and the one that didn't offered to use Paypal to get the funds to me since PayPal accepts AMEX.
