I have a one-shot client that wants a cart set up with about 20 items. They will "take it from there". In the long run, I expect to convert this into more business (any number of upgrade issues), but I do want to give best effort at giving them something that I can teach ($) them to run. Suggestions? (Hosting is already established, and fixed.) Client skills are pretty minimal (WYSIWYG).

The PayPal cart is pretty simple. You can generate "add to cart" buttons at PayPal site and copy/paste them to your product pages. PayPal manages the cart contents and gives you order reports.

Yeah I used paypal cart exclusivly once found I was losing sales, swithed to CC and took only PP transaction a week.

People dont like it.

Something simple I suppose its got to be OScommerce, scalable etc blah blah

OsCommerce is great, but a bit fiddly to start with. Personally, I have been impressed by x-cart but it ain't free ;)

The "low brow" rep (not near fully deserved IMO) for PP will probably put them off, plus they take CC in their bricks and mortar and won't pay an ongoing premium.

OSCommerce is probably not going to be simple enough.

X-cart looks to be in the budget, so I'll take a hard look at that this evening.

The simplest cart I have seen is cubecart.

Another simple cart is litecommerce but this is not idiot proof and may require some customer support.

x-cart is not simple at all

I've got folks using ClickCartPro, once it's set up, it's pretty easy to work with.

I've been very happy with securenetshop. It has enough features for me and is also pretty simple to figure out.

I would go for Mal's Ecommerce - simple to set up and the basic version is free.

For the immediate need I've set them up with Mal's Ecommerce. I'll continue to take a look at some of these other simple cart options so that, in the future, I can make at least a couple of recommendations for this situation.
