Making PayPal Better

Add to my list...

I use PayPal exclusively for now, and I wouldn't mind continuing to do this if...

1) I could take phone orders and enter my customers info into paypal for them- this alone would be a huge bonus to my sales

2) Paypal offered a phone answering service- even better! Suppose I could get an 800 number from paypal where one of their reps would answer my customer sales calls and use my shopping cart to enter my customers orders for me and take them through the payment process. I would gladly pay an extra flat fee of $2-$4/sale for this service- non sales related calls could just be routed to me/voicemail for a lesser fee $.50 or so?

3) Partial refunds- sales amount minus shipping cost would be nice

4) That problem where some people are told they must wait for a credit card statement to process before they can order... never figured out who/why that happpens to a few people but not most?

5) There is probably more, but the phone thing is my biggest need right now and the only real reason I would need to get a merchant account. But, add to my list and then maybe we can all send letters to paypal on how they can improve and someone over there might notice...

PayPal, wisely, verifies people by putting a special "code" on their credit card statement. Once the user sees this code on their statement, and gives it back to PayPal, then PayPal will boost their spending limit. It's only a problem for people who are brand new to PayPal, and want to make a big order, right away. Frankly, you might not want those orders.

After seeing several million put through PP for a client, there is no question that the chargeback rate with PayPal is one 1000/th that of standard merchant account. Chargebacks due to fraud are almost non-existent.

Around half of my customers are required to do this verification check.
All of my products are under $130
Why are some people required to do the verification?
Also there is a new option to pay by credit card without having to set up PP account.
Is there still the verification check?
Thanks

gogo, if you'd like, contact me at pb (at) paypal (dot) com and we can research your account. I've been told that the percentage of customers needing to go through the confirmation process is significantly lower than that.

The new sign-up-not-required process (currently only available for US merchants) does not change any credit card confirmation requirements.
