With an appropriate explanation for those actually interested in what it means, I don't see that it would provide a noticably detrimental effect. It also [in my mind] makes the company a more human environment, because you know somebody exists to list and detail all the ebay auctions, which you don't get with places such as Amazon or Ebuyer.
I agree with Wibble, it can't possibly be detrimental enough to hurt sales. And some of your newbie customers might get the warm fuzzies looking at all your A+++ ratings.
