But........I find that the OSCommerce's PHP editor a problem.
Is there any pointers, books, sites, whatever that can help me set up an online shop.
I would rather find out now, than when I have started and have more products.

Not really sure what you're refering to in regards to osCommerce and Dreamweaver unless your refering to problems trying edit the PHP in Dreamweaver. If so I would recomend just using a regular( or fancy) text editor for editing the PHP. If you're trying to change the look of the cart take a look in the contributions section of the osCommerce site and there is a really good one that will make life a lot easier than trying to edit the PHP in each of those documents.
As far as pointers to setting up an osCommerce shop. Probably the best place to go is the forums on the osCommerce site. There is also a wiki document on the site that gives some very basic stuff but the meat is in the forums. Very active community using and supporting that cart.

I can do a decent layout, it's just the "choose the goods & shopping trolly" bits that I cannot do.
OSCommerce is an excellent ( and open source ) package. It's just that PHP & me don't get on.
So ... is there a way to make Frontpage 4 create an on-line shop?

yes. you can use Microsoft's BCentral, a google search will provide the link. I believe it's ~usd25.00 per month to use their cart features. You will have to download the Bcentral e-commerce plug-in for FrontPage. You then upload your catalog to your hosting server.
I've used Bcentral and osCommerce. The amount of time you will waste on Bcentral updating your catalog, uploading it, setting the look and feel, etc, you will be better off working through the php problems you may confront with osCommerce. You'll enjoy the flexibility of osCommerce much more.
the osCommerce support forums are outstanding. Any problem you confront you can find the answer already listed or post it and the response times, I've found are fast.

If you plan to customize osCommerce then you will have to know html and some php.
IMO- It's best to use a non-WYSIWYG editor and try something like TextPad or EditPlus.
You don't need to be an expert with php to make a great osC store. Learning how the pages are constructed and the file structure is most important.
And as mentioned abouve, the osC forums are quite helpful.
