shopping cart without cc processing?

hi everyone. i'm wondering if anyone can help me out. i currently maintain a website without a shopping cart. all our products are manually updated on the site every week. customers phone in their orders or email them if we have their credit card info on file already.

now.. my boss wants me to implement a shopping cart on the site with all our products. there are approximately 1500 different items. i need a program or site with a database that will be able to handle this many products. i also need it to be able to support customer logins with passwords. we sell items at two different prices, wholesale and retail so the solution will have to be able to list different prices depending on what type of customer it is. finally.. we don't want to process credit cards in real time. instead we just want to be able to securely receive any orders via email that a customer places. we'd still continue to process any orders manually.

can anyone suggest any solutions? my friend recommended miva merchant.. which our host offers.

Mal's eCommerce is free which lets you accept CC details securely to process manually later. Best if you don't have lots of orders. Good luck on your search for wholesale/retail pricing store.

look at oscommerce it's free and feature rich including the customer login and there is a contribution/add-on that will do what you want for the wholesale and retail customers.

is miva merchant a good solution as well? or is it more than we need since we don't want real time credit card processing.

commerce is the standard, however, it can be difficult if you dont know what your doing.
You really need to be able to alter it and customize it so it doesnt look like the standard install. Its really not as easy as it looks and of course you could pay someone but thats going cost you some money.

If I was you, I would use the agora cart which is in the Cpanel. You only really need to know HTML and alter the homepage and your done. The go to FreeSSL and get a 35 SSL cert. and start processing. Just another option.

We use the Miva package that our host provides. We also process the card info inhouse. It is a good place to start.

When you process a order with Miva, does the url change to Miva or some form of it?

go with clickcartpro from clickcartpro.com you would be able to choose your payment gateway, and set it up for checks, or offline cc processing

the open source Oscommerce is good but may be slightly slow ,and if you want to pay so I recommend either Comersus or EarlyImpact
And if you don’t have the ability to host and setup the cart yourself so you may find Monstercommerce cart helpful

In my line of work, we refer our merchants to USAePay, a gateway providor (www.usaepay.com). The guys there are really on the ball and they have a shopping cart that has all the best bells and whistles. You can call Alex at 866-872-3729. Tell them that John Brown from Humboldt sent you. They will be happy to talk to you about a solution without giving you the hard sell.

A secondary problem could be in the terms and conditions of your CURRENT (offline) system. Most card systems where you swipe the card on a PDQ machine have different terms and conditions than online systems. Those conditions generally insist that you PHYSICALLY SEE the card at point of purchase and/or collect a signature!

You may already have zero protection for against people using fraudulent card numbers. Check your small print on the existing contract.

I'm trying to stay within the guidelines by not appearing to "sell" anything, but this area is one way I earn my living. Visa/MC regulations stipulate that an account either be a CPS (Customer Present Swipe) or a MOTO (Mail/Telephone - which ecommerce falls within). If you are setting up an account, be sure to tell them that you are setting up a MOTO acccount and DO NOT get set up as a CPS account as that will only bring headaches and end up costing you time and money. If you are currently set up as a CPS, then you need to change your account type, otherwise you will be penalized as your charges will be downgraded to a mid-qualified or non-qualified transactions. At a minimum, your terminal should require AVS, although CVV is becoming a requirement with more processors. Your credit card processor should be able to switch your account type without penalty. This will save you money and afford you the ability to utilize some of the fraud prevention techniques not available in older CPS accounts. Some providers also offer a CPS/MOTO combination that eliminates the minimums and other fees on one of the accounts.
