I am looking to analyze the website promotion based on two factors, money versus website optimization. For technical purposes, the units to be considered are: 100 % website optimization, 50/50 website optimization and money, 100 % money promotion. Lets consider time versus money: 20 hours per week (website optimization), 10 hours per week (website optimization), $25/week, $50 per week, $100 per week. Lets also consider the type of website: gambling, retail, wholesale.

Variance from these params and additional params should be considered.

I look forward to any ideas, suggestions, facts and opinions on this.

stevenb_1959 - You are trying to compare dollars to hours, which is a tough thing to do without assigning a dolar value to the hours. What is that SEO time worth? $20-$40 per hour for an employee? Or $40 to $100+ for a consultant?

Once you determine that, then you can better compare the cost of customer acquisition through SEO (longterm activity, recurring benefit) with paid advertising (short term activity, one time benefit).

If I had $250 per month to promote my commercial website, what would be my most viable options.

If you have a new site, one benefit of paid advertising is you can get an earlier indication if your site is commercially viable. But I do not see why it is an either/or situation if you are the one doing SEO?
