Is anyone conducting a mail order business on-site with no electricity? I'm thinking of going mobile with the phone and wireless internet on a laptop. For printing, I'm considering battery powered mobile printers. With this kind of setup, I'm thinking we could even run a business out of a self-storage space. :) Any thoughts?

No electricity?!?!? Where do you live? Norfolk (!).

I see no reason why this wouldnt work although you are making things hard for yourself.

A car charger for laptop batteries would be good asset. Are they available, could do with one myself.

Good Luck. :)

I will be moving from southern California to northern California. While rent and real estate is very inexpensive in S. California, San Francisco and surrounding areas charge a premium for flats and work spaces. I'm not a big operation so I'm looking to minimize costs while having a separate work area from the house.

It can be done, but I wouldn't want it as a permanant primary operation. You can use deep cycle marine batteries and converters to provide your power. You should be able to get a good days laptop power from a setup like that. I know a number of people who use these setups for powering lights and credit card machines at outdoor arts and craft shows. I would have a couple extra batteries for backup just in case, or to alternate while you are recharging one. The setup is heavy, and not something that I would want to lug back and forth every day.
