ProTX - any good?

Been looking for a cheaper alternative to Worldpay

I currently use Worldpay however I've just added up the transaction fees for the last few months and almost fainted!

I've had ProTX suggested as an alternative since they don't charge for transactions, just a flat rate of £20 a month. Has anyone had any experience with them? Am I going to have a smooth transition if I switch to them?

Or are there any other good alternatives?

We like Protx. We have tried (in our time):
Worldpay, Paypal(ugh), Protx, Netbanx and offline card swiping with a good old fasioned PDQ.

Protx is the least expensive by a mile - or at least it was, when we took it on.

Protx has NOT been 100% reliable, but what impressed us was that when their servers did start missing a few beats, they emailed everyone, explaining both the problems and what they were doing to fix it.

By contrast, Worldpay's recent DOS attack was only mentioned by them after it was mentioned on silicon.com I think. As for Netbanx, they had fraud issues which they were unwilling or unable to fix. They said we should fix it, so we did - by finding a new supplier.

So... in review, Protx is not bad, but still not perfect.

Mind you - of you currently use a full worldpay service, then you are still going to need a merchant service like BMS, which WILL take a percentage, so the flat fee is a bit misleading. If, however, you were accepting credit cards before your web business, you simply "patch" into the account with a new terminal ID or whatever jargon they use.

Dixon.
