I am now working with a website development firm whose preferred cart of choice is OsCommerce. They are heavily modifying it oftentimes, but it is what they use as the infrastructure for most sites.

I am fairly new to php and session ID's, and have asked questions about it in the past, but am still searching for any applicable info. I can wrap my mind around.

Has anyone had experience optimizing OsCommerce for SE's? What are the pros and cons to this cart? Any tips and tricks that you can offer for this cart are appreciated.

I've had pretty good success with osC and SE's. One store has 4,000+ products and all of them are listed.

I always use the meta tags contribution. And I have tons of keywords loaded for most items.

I've also created a site map for the sites.

I have decent rankings with product_info.php pages.

And very good rankings with default.php and the category pages. (PR5 - PR7)

Most of my Google listings look like this:

Site Name Product Name
... Product Name, $23.70. Item#: MY-PRO-EA. Product Name Frst few lines of Product Description ...

i've used osCommerce for the last year and rank extremely well for the search terms i'm after.

the urls that osCommerce kicks out are not the prettiest but search engine friendly.

you should optimize your site for search engines w/osCommerce in the same manner you would a static site or any other sites. same rules, just a different tool and the search results will prove such.

a sweet tool/cart to get an e-commerce site up and running quicky. there online support forum is an excellent resource.
