Just launched a new website (selling online apparel with a technology, digital music, gaming theme) and I'm wondering what your experiences have been in the first few months of your site being live.

We launched our site about a week ago, and we haven't seen any sales yet, though we are engaging in a full marketing program using various techniques including PPC (small Google Adwords campaign), general search engine submission, message forum posting, link exchanges, hunting, etc. We have not received any sales yet, but I was wondering what your general experiences with the "start" phase of an ecommerce site have been. How much time does it take to see some half-decent sales? Are we talking a month? 2 months? Obviously it takes time to get a decent marketing program underway, but I'd like to know what you guys think a good timeframe is for seeing some decent sales before it's reasonable to start panicking.

Any input is much appreciated.

Remember that your site may take many months to appear on the search engine listings unless you have paid for premium listings.

Google Adwords should bring in potential customers straight away. Also, take a look at Overture. They have been especially good for my site.

It is impossible to put a time frame on your sales. Is your site well designed and functional? Are your products good enough? Are they priced competitively?

Anyway, good luck. I'm sure it will turn out okay in the end. Keep working hard and I'm sure it will pay off.

also can depend on the type of product you are selling.

is it a "considered" purchase or "spontaneous" purchase?

we have launch some sites that have had much faster take up than others down to the product i am sure

it is a frustrating time, but stick with it and give it some time

don't know about that a site I put online on Thursday is already pulling in traffic from Google, just work on building some good links then you should do OK
