Not sure if this is the right thread, but hopefully if not it will get moved.

I am trying to do research on portal implementation challenges. What are the pitfalls? What have those that implemented portals on a corporate lvel faced? I couldn't find articles on it either. Find it hard to belive that they are easy to implement.

Any thoughts...

Hi Acternaweb,

Did you mean implement a corporate portal (i.e., Intranet for the company) or corporate backing for the companys' portal? The first one is easy - find out what the staff need, and what the departments want, and put it up. The second one takes a lot of time, a lot of development, a lot of resources and is a b*****d of a project (I know, I've done a couple myself!)

What you will find it no ne clear definition of what a portal actaully is. for some it is yahoo for others it is user focused content, aggregation and a miriad of other things to boot.

There is a start for you. There is quite a lot out there.

So, i see you've found the first and biggest pitfall already - the definition of said portal ;)

You need to specify exactly which kind of portal you want, as saying "portal" is sort of like saying "vehicle" - anything from bicycles to trucks and lots in-between.
