Is this something that is fairly typical?

In the UK a lot of small businesses (micro’s, SME’s) use PO boxes, so it’s not uncommon. If in doubt phone them and explain your concern.

It is occasionally an indicator of attempted fraud, ie get the goods shipped, yet when you try to process the payment...

Before you panic, let me echo richarb and also say its used by small businesses too, especially where its a one man operation working from a private residence, for example, who does not wish to publicise his/her home address. You should probably contact them to confirm the order

There are alot of mom and pop consultants and biz people out there working from their home. It is quite common for them to a use a PO box for their biz address. Part of that is to protect their home address.

we run about 12 PO box's in the UK, it like business cloaking, we are legit, but we run from one location but have redirect offices across the UK. due to competition in our market place we prefer to be 12 companies to the outside world.
