We sell the right to post content directly on our sites. We sell this right either in a subscription form or in a one time purchase. We do not sell products and have no shipping costs and clients who sign up will be people we have had extended contact with so fraud is very unlikely.
We need to be able to accept payments on our own site in the following ways:
- Monthly (or 3 monthly or 6 monthly) recurring payments
- One time payments in fixed amounts
- One time payments where the client enters the amount they want to send to us.
If a client has paid and a third party service is used then we need to get info back about:
- The amount paid and on which date
- The package that was paid for
- Whether the payment succeeded or not
We need this info to enable/disable the client's content placed on our site.
The amounts we charge will be pretty small, in the range of $10-30 per month and we do not expect a lot of transactions (as little as a few per month) for the coming 6 months. So we need low fixed costs but the room to grow.
Now, I have done some research and visited many cc handling services, but just like webhosting, its a zoo out there and advise from fellow-webmasters seems to be the only way to go again.
I have read some threads of which this one was most valuable: [webmasterworld.com...]
It presents good tips and a lot of things to be aware of, what it lacks is actual tips and experiences with the companies that you use. Can anyone (preferably in the same sort of line of CC transactions) tell me who they are using and what their experiences are. Help is greatly appreciated.
you might want to try checking out paysystems.com. I am in the process of setting up an account with them, so unfortunately i can't personally vouch as to how good they are. However, they are quite affordable, accept a wide variety of cc's and seem to offer a lot of options. I heard about them by reading over some different posts on webmasterworld. I have also used worldpay and found them to be quite expensive and the service rather substandard, so I don't know if I could recommend going with them, though they are one of the largest and better known.
Hope it all works out for you!

Somebody else got great tips?
How about starting a list of great CC handlers categorised by size/scope. That could be a helpfull resource for the many CC n00bs in here like me who ask the same questions the whole time.
