Process for creating an on-line catalog

Many different content providers, how do you organize

We are about to start an on-line catalog from the bottom up and wanted to get thoughts on what processes have been used. We have several hundred content providers from around the world that will send in text, images, graphics, etc.

Looking for ways to organize this content so it can be easily added to a content management system.

Currently we have a print catalog but not a great website.

Any ideas? If you have questions, please ask.

Thanks

I assume your selling real goods? So your question is how do you track your which firm supplied you with what?

I use supplier co's first 3 letters of their company name followed by their stock code.

No not really, more so the process of getting the content. How it works from the content provider to the content manager to the IT people and in reverse for auditing/review.

Make more sense?

It seems you want the various content providers to write the catalog information to your web site? There are content managers for that. I would try a search engine using "content management" and some other words like author, review, auditor, etc.

Another idea is for them to send a data feed to you. Some sites offer bulk upload too.
