Tried to login to my account this morning, 8:44 AM GMT. I finally got access after trying multiple times to get in and a long time and waiting.
The whole admin area takes ages for anything to load. And then when you do actually go to the Payments section, the table is so hard to understand I don't really know how they figure out their totals.
Anyone know why they hold a reserve? I am growing extremely suspicious of 2CheckOut, I would love a processor that doesn't have such a complicated display of transactions. I know from experience that PayPal are much clearer, what about other services like WorldPay and PaySystems?
I know what you mean about the payments report - it is diabolical. I suspect the info we need is there but that one needs a degree in math to work out ho much they are going to pay out.
Holding a reserve is common (paysystems etc. do it as well) They keep that back in case of charge backs, bad transactions etc.
I think the reserve is normally released in the next payment cycle.
I chose 2CO just because it was quick and easy to use . Buy cheap buy twice.
So you think that they may be headig for financial trouble? they wil be if they dont get their act together.
Now when I finally did get allowed in, I received this short message:
"The sellers area is temporarily closed.
We are performing some routine software maintenance on our sellers database machine to help handle the extremely heavy load we have been seeing this week.
The database machine that handles purchases is not affected by this temporary outage.
Please try again in a few minutes"
Temporarily closed, that's ok, I was getting worried there for the last week or so when I could hardly even use the service I paid for. But don't worry, "The database machine that handles purchases is not affected by this temporary outage"! That's a change!
What is going on with these guys? Essex_boy, I too am thinking seriously about WorldPay, been speaking to others who use the service and they maintain that it is of a consistently high standard.
I really do wonder about the professionalism of 2Co its close to 5 days since I tried to gain access to my admin area and not even an email from the company.
It doesnt take much to say sorry but hold in there.
Does it really?
We had some problems like everyone else with 2Checkout and was really surprised when I got a phone call from them on Monday apologizing and explaining the situation.
I think the posts above are correct that an email should have been sent out to users once the system was up again.
It does seem that 2Checkout has grown very quickly - maybe that's part of their problem, that they're not catching up with themselves. For start up businesses I think the deal they offer is pretty good - just a shame that there are these continual server problems.
I would always offer an alternative payment method by the way - not just for these occasions but for customer choice.
Cheers

Sep 24, 2003: Today a new DDOS attack came in against the Sellers server. The sellers area was inaccessible for roughly 2 hours.
The sellers area machine was updated to block the attack and is now functioning normally again.
We apologize for the inconvenience that the attack caused.
Cheers
I discovered the problems with 2Co when I was just at the start of a new ecomm project - I thought about using 2co when things calmed down.
Im glad I didnt go with them on this one. My feeling is this is going to a common occurance for 2Co from now on.
Think long and hard about using them kiddies!
Do you think they have taken this seriously and are now implementing the improvements they promised?
Essex_boy, if you didn't choose 2CO, who did you go with? WorldPay?
Essex_boy, my hosting company use WorldPay and they have rave reviews of them. The host says he only found out about the 2CheckOut problems when he tried to purchase something from a site using 2CheckOut, only to find it wouldn't process and they lost his business. I wonder how much this happens to us ...
Has anyone ever had people emailing them about not being able to place an order due to 2CheckOut being messed up?
We got mails the last time there were problems (10 days ago) but I don't think sales have been affected since then.
We have quite a few people using WorldPay too - only thing I've heard is that they hold onto funds for a while but the rest has been good. Also heard of no particular issues with NOCHEX or Secpay - they might also be worth a look for UK stores.
Cheers
Everything seems to be quite smooth since the recent upgrade. All of the reports are now quick & responsive. Guess we will have to wait until the next DOS attack before we can give a totally clean bill of health.
