I’ve already posted this in two other forums and don’t really need the speech about how PayPal sucks (I’ve got 2,000 subscribers in their system right now) but I figured you guys always have great advice. Here’s my situation with PayPal subscriptions,

I have two different subscription levels (Standard, Family), each with four different terms lengths (1, 3, 6, and 12 months). Recently a large number of my Standard subscribers have decided to upgrade to Family subscriptions and my 1 and 3 month term people have decided to upgrade to 6 and 12-month terms.

I need a way for these users to upgrade their subscriptions, pay a prorated amount for the remainder of the current term (I can calculate the prorated amount myself and include it in the button if needed), and have their recurring subscription changed for the next term.

I already know how to create a dynamic modify subscription button to change a current subscription to a new level/term and can even provide the amount of the prorated credit. Unfortunately my users subscriptions aren’t getting updated and I’m not getting paid until the end of the term. I need a way for subscribers to pay me a prorated amount and update their subscription immediately rather than simply change the term of it at the next renewal.

I don’t want to tell my users they have to cancel their current subscription and then create a new one. These are good customers who should have the easiest possible method for upgrading that I can provide.

How can I do this?

Thanks,

The PayPal modify subscription process only modifies the next payment and period. PayPal does not do any pro-rating. The PayPal subscription service is targeted at merchants who have different subscription terms for the same service (e.g., $10/month or $20 per quarter).

Thanks,

BTW, you only have to answer my question on one forum. Regardless, if you see this reply first...

Can a trial term be placed into the same button as a modify subscription button? That way I could charge the current term upgrade as a trial and then modify the second term.

Will something similar to what I started this thread over be implemented any time soon?

No, the modification will only apply to the recurring term and a new "trial" period cannot be inserted.

I'm not aware of any current plans to enhance this.
