Conversion rates for e-luxury sites?

Hi everyone! I'm new to the board and look forward to swapping valuable info. I'm a Content Developer for an e-commerce site that specializes in luxury-type items for home and garden.

Lately, we've been wondering how our conversion rate measures up to other similar sites. I've done some Internet searches but haven't had any luck finding such averages. Does anyone know where I may be able to find this type of information, tailored for specific markets?

Thanks and Happy Friday!

Shop.org surveyed different kinds of merchants and found that 1.8% was the average conversion rate among them.

If you compare your site's conversion rate with related sites and find that yours is higher, it may make you feel good and give you a rough idea of how well it's doing, but that's about all it's worth.

Comparing your site to others could even give you the false impression that there's little room for improvement. "After all, our conversion rate is higher than theirs."

Fact is, most sites have a very poor conversion rate. It's not a very high bar to compare your own site to :-)

Even those sites that already have high conversion rates have plenty of room to boost conversion further. The trick is finding the largest bottlenecks that are hindering conversion, and fixing them.

It's surprising how even tiny little tweaks to a site can have such an impact on conversion rates, for good or bad.

Conversion rates can be misleading and can vary alot depending on the quality of the traffic going to your site.

In my experience anything over 1% is generally pretty good for a site selling high end, luxury products.

There are lots of techniques you can use to incease your conversion rates.
